What is CEREC?
CEREC is the machine that allows for quick diagnosis to design and installation of new crowns on the same day. In fact, it takes a few hours to have your crowns in place. This machine uses Computer Aided Design (CAD) to create crowns in a single visit. A dentist takes the computer images of your mouth and the teeth after which a dental crown is carved out of a solid ceramic block. It is then bonded to your broken tooth, a process that will take a few minutes to complete.
The process takes a bit of time as it involves milling out a cap that is mapped onto the tooth. Here are some of the things that are done before you finally get the crown:
- The dentist will have an oral examination, which involves x-rays and the images of your mouth
- The charts are taken using the computer-aided technology
- The mould is prepared from the images
- The tooth is or the area around it is numbed
- The crown is then fixed on the tooth
The crown is curved from a top-grade, plaque resistant material with the help of the CEREC device. Usually, a specialized dentist will ensure that your CEREC crown is perfectly sized and shaped to complement the other teeth and to improve your smile as well as tooth functionality. Do you have defective teeth due to decay, malformation, oral injury or root canal? Check out a dentist for either dental bridges or crowns.
